The Story of Genna Design Jewellery

Hi there, I’m Genna and I’m a Scottish jewellery designer based in Wasps Studios, Dundee. Ever since I was a little girl I’ve been making things with my hands. Growing up in the lovely coastal town of Largs, I have always been completely in awe of the sea. I spent my childhood combing the sand for unusual shells and rocks, many of which I still have today.

My other great passion in life is architecture and when I was growing up, I planned to study it at university. But that all changed when I took a night class in jewellery making. I immediately loved the feeling of working with metal and precious stones and creating beautiful miniature sculptures with my hands. All of a sudden I could channel my love of architecture and the sea into making a single piece of jewellery that could be worn and adored. It is such a satisfying process and I love it just as much today.

When I graduated with a BDes (Hons) in Jewellery & Metal Design from Duncan of Jordanstone in 2006, I knew that I wanted to continue to make my own jewellery designs. There is nothing like seeing someone else wear something that you have created with your own hands, it still gives me a thrill today. In October 2006, I officially opened Genna Design, and I have been selling my hand made contemporary jewellery ever since.

When I’m not busy creating jewellery, I spend my time browsing in vintage clothes shops, watching foreign films and watching local bands play live. I also love to travel and when I finally get the time I’ve got big plans to visit Norway, Barcelona, Japan, New Zealand, Egypt, USA and Germany too! l love admiring gothic buildings and roaming the beautiful beaches of Dundee, looking for unusual shapes in the sand, filling my pockets as I go. You never know, that next pebble could just inspire a new jewellery creation.

Publications & Awards

I remember how nervous I was sending out that first submission, but when it happens, there’s nothing quite like walking into a bookstore or craft store, picking up a popular jewelry magazine, and seeing a beautiful photo of your own original design inside.

I’m so proud and humbled that my work has been featured in various magazines, newspapers and books throughout the years. My here are some of the places I’ve been featured in.
